Molalign Belay Adugna

Molalign Belay Adugna, PhD

Education

  • BA in Sociology and Social Anthropology with distinction, Addis Ababa University
  • MA in Sociology of Health and Well-being, Addis Ababa University
  • PhD in Rehabilitation Science, Queen’s University, Canada

Experience

Dr. Molalign Belay has over 10 years of teaching and administrative experience at the University of Gondar. Born and raised in a rural Ethiopian village, he was engaged in farming and local tour guide before pursuing higher education. His PhD dissertation, The Quest for Inclusion and Overcoming Stigma, engaged children with disabilities, caregivers, policymakers, and practitioners to enhance disability awareness and inclusive education in Ethiopia.

He is a 2016 Mandela Washington Fellow (Bridgewater State University, USA) and a 2021 fellow of the Stigma Research Training Institute, Fogarty International Center, NIH, USA. Currently, he lectures in the Department of Sociology and co-directs the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Gondar. He also volunteers as a trainer, guest speaker, and trustee for various organizations.

Experience

Nega Mihret is an Assistant Professor of Population Studies at the University of Gondar and a founding team member of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. He has led the Department of Population Studies and has taught and supervised both undergraduate and graduate students. His research interests include Fertility, Reproductive Health, Migration, Human Trafficking, Population aging, and Population and Development nexus.

Since January 2018, he has served as Graduate Mastercard Foundation Scholars Coordinator, managing scholar services, program implementation, and performance monitoring.

Experience

Mrs. Adina Demssie joined the University of Gondar in 2014 and has served as Lecturer and Head of the Health Informatics Department. She previously worked as a gender officer and registrar coordinator at Teda Health Science College.

In her current role, she manages all aspects of the undergraduate Mastercard Foundation Scholars’ journey, from recruitment and admission to academic support and performance monitoring.

Experience

Dr. Tadesse Abera is an Associate Professor in the Department of Special Needs and Inclusive Education at the University of Gondar. He previously served at Mizan-Tepi University (2006–2013) and joined UoG in 2013. His research and teaching focus on inclusive higher education, deaf education, early childhood education, self-advocacy, pedagogy, eLearning, and action research.

He is also an Associate Editor for the Disability, CBR & Inclusive Development journal and contributed to the foundation of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Gondar. As Graduate Mastercard Foundation Scholars Coordinator, he oversees graduate recruitment, admissions, training, academic follow-ups, and scholar transitions to the workforce.

Experience

Prof. Tadesse Awoke is a seasoned biostatistician with over 18 years of experience in teaching, research, and curriculum development. He has designed MPH and PhD programs in Biostatistics and has taught at multiple Ethiopian universities.

He has authored over 200 publications and led impactful research initiatives in health and related sectors. His expertise includes advanced statistical analysis, project management, proposal writing, and evaluation frameworks.

In his current role, he is responsible for implementing the MERL system, data collection, analysis, communication of findings, and research dissemination.

Experience

Muluken has a diverse background in project coordination, trade administration, and academic administration. His diverse background includes roles as team leader in wereda trade & transport, Cooperative promotion officer, IGA project coordinator with Link Ethiopia, and registrar officer at University of Gondar’s Institute of Technology (2017-2018).

Experience

Solomon Mesfin is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Gondar. He has served as Director of University-Industry Linkage and Technology Transfer Directorate and as Dean of the Institute of Technology at the University of Gondar.

His research spans material science, thermal engineering, energy systems, and automation. He has participated in multiple collaborative projects and has over 16 published articles.

Experience

Dr. Solomon Girma is an Assistant Professor of English Literature at the University of Gondar. His academic work explores feminist literature, memory, music, and cultural identity. He also delivers training in employability, life skills, IELTS, and German language.

He serves as International Relations and Partnerships Directorate Director at the University of Gondar and supports communications for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.

Experience

Mrs. Meseret Tsegaw has over 15 years of experience teaching at Tsadiku Yohannis Special Needs Unit and 10 years as its coordinator. She also served 5 years as a guidance counselor at Atse Fasil High School.

Certified in sign language and braille, she joined the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program in 2021 and currently provides holistic support to Mastercard Foundation Scholars.
