Empowering Scholars with Disabilities through Employability Skills and Job Readiness Training

Graduating Scholars and non-scholars with disabilities had the opportunity to enhance their employability skills and job readiness through a short-term training hosted by the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Gondar from July 09 to July 12, 2024. The training aimed to empower the trainees with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the competitive job market.

During the training, the participants interacted with master trainers in employability skills and job readiness and received guidance on job readiness, job search, and career development. They learned about self-awareness, cover letter and resume writing, interview techniques, effective networking strategies, and other crucial components for securing employment opportunities.

Through active participation in group discussions, CV writing, and mock interviews, both Scholars and non-scholars gained practical experience and valuable insights into employers’ expectations.

The training also emphasized the importance of self-advocacy and empowerment, encouraging the trainees to embrace their unique strengths and talents that will help them land their dream jobs.

Overall, the Employability Skills and Job Readiness Training provided a transformative experience for the trainees, enabling them to navigate the competitive job market with confidence despite any challenges they may face due to disabilities.

The impact of this training is expected to extend far beyond the training days they spent together and help Scholars achieve their professional aspirations.
