Scholar Sosna Melkamu
Msc in Medical Nursing
Message from Sosna on the Scholars Program at the University of Gondar:
“My time at the University of Gondar’s Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is something I will cherish forever. I remember the morning I found out I had been accepted to the Medical Nursing program. I was overjoyed yet feared that I might not be able to learn due to my parents’ financial constraints. I had been filled with anxiety until I received another paper the following evening that informed me the program will cover all of my expenses. I couldn’t have been more grateful. I knew I had been given the privilege to attend an prestigious program that not many people were lucky enough attend. This bestowed in me a sense of obligation to use the opportunity effectively. Starting from the day I attended the University of Gondar, I had been greeted by kind and always-ready-to-help staff that made me feel welcome. They were willing to lend a hand in all that I needed and to chat amicably whenever they could. In the two years, I spent at the University of Gondar attending this distinguished program, I improved my enriched and critical thinking abilities. I can honestly say that I became a true young scholar and I am very thankful to those who enabled me to be so. Now, I have finished my studies (Msc) in medical nursing from UoG. I am very open to whatever opportunities the future may hold, especially within the MasterCard Foundation umbrella. I pride myself in being flexible and adaptable. I think the best way of planning for the future is to make the most of the present. And in the future I plan on creating a better future for people just like me. I will do so by improving my networking skills. This in turn will help me to start my own business becoming an expert in my field. I will do my level best to further the gratitude that the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program gave to me and I will continue to work tirelessly to create a better community for my fellow citizens.”
