Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program organizes a training on the operation of Braille Embosser Technology

A five-day training on the use of Braille Embosser Technology is underway at the University of Gondar from May 22-26, 2023. The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Gondar organized the training for staff, staff with visual impairment, IT administrators and technicians on the operation and maintenance of the printing machine.

The embosser, which translates documents on a computer into braille, was donated by the Nurture Project at the University of Gondar. Nonetheless, there has been lack of trained manpower with relevant theoretical and practical skills that allow the use of the embossing machine.

In addition to creating access to braille users, the machine supports a wide range of both local and international languages and allows a high-quality Braille output on various paper types.

The training is, thus, aimed at filling the aforementioned skill gap, and it is delivered by Dr. Tamiru, a certified Adaptive Technology specialist from Adaptive Technology Centre for the Blind, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
