The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Gondar is in the process of training Scholars in the techniques of Community Based Rehabilitation.
The CBR training, which will be held for the next two weeks, is a certificate-based program that will take the Scholars through rigorous training via five comprehensive modules. Currently, the Scholars who are second and third year students at the University of Gondar are engaged on Module 3, which is involved with the CBR Matrix.
The objective of the certificate program is to develop the knowledge and enhance the skills and attitudes of students and CBR practitioners in the area of disability inclusion and rehabilitation.
Ultimately, the training will give the Scholars an avenue and path to move into CBR management roles that will enable them to contribute towards community based rehabilitation and at the same time improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities in Ethiopia. A total of 34 trainees are continuously attending the workshop of which 18 are females.
The training is 7 weeks long and will cover a wide array of topics that will allow the participant’s to better grasp the ins and outs of CBR related matters. The training consists of materials that will focus on disability, CBR and inclusive development, national legal frameworks, CBR matrix, community development skills, cycle management and will include a two-week field attachment.
